Moon/Mars Conjunction

December 7, 2022, the Moon passed extremely close to Mars, as seen from my front yard. Had I been a relatively short distance to the northwest, the Moon would have completely occulted the planet.

Using the techniques described in Planetary Problem Solving, I got a few decent images of the Moon, Mars, and Jupiter.

Mars Moon Conjunction
The thin white stripe on the left side of Mars is its northern polar ice cap.

Mars Moon Conjunction
Mars
The conjunction only lasted a few minutes, after which the Moon moved below Mars in the sky.
Moon and Mars
The Moon and Mars about an hour after the peak of the conjunction.
Jupiter
I was able to get a few decent shots of Jupiter before it descended into the haze near the horizon.
