Caldwell 27 – The Crescent Nebula

The Crescent Nebula is located about 5,000 light years in the constellation Cygnus. It was created by Wolf-Rayet star WR 136, visible at center. Wolf-Rayet stars are massive, super-bright stars. WR 136 blew off a portion of its outer shell 250,000 to 400,000 years ago, forming the nebula. Intense radiation from the star causes the nebula to glow.
